According to the Turkmen program for petroleum industry development, annual gas extraction should reach 230 billion cubic meters annually, most of which will be exported.
Turkmenistan has the fourth largest gas reserves. Russia, Iran and Qatar have the highest reserves. Turkmenistan exports gas to China, Iran and Russia.
Turkmenistan is building a pipeline to export gas to Russia through Kazakhstan, Trans-Caspian as part of Nabucco or AGRI to export it to Europe through the Caspian or Azerbaijan and a pipeline through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India.
