Transit volume through the territory of Iran grows 75% in three years

The Iranian Deputy Minister for Roads and Urban Development, the head of roads and road transport, Shahriyar Efendi-zade, said at the opening of a retail complex at the Bazergan border terminal in Western Azerbaijan province that more than a hundred countries now transit  their goods through the territory of Iran, Iran News reports.

According Efendi-zade, these countries believe that the most convenient and reliable transport routes between the Asian and European markets are through Iranian territory .

Over the last three years transit volume through Iran has grown by 75%.

Efendi-zade said that in the first five months of the Iranian calendar (20.03-21.08.12)  5,000,000 tons of goods in transit were carried on Iran's roads, which is 25% than in the same period last year.

According Efendi-zade, transport is the foundation of any economy, and in recent years important projects in the field of road construction have been implemented in Iran.
