Nord Stream halts gas flows ahead of 2nd pipeline launch

The Nord Stream company halted gas flows for about eight hours on Tuesday, saying the outage was planned as part of its preparations to start using a second pipeline next month, RIA Novosti reports.

Nord Stream carries Russian gas to Europe via the Baltic Sea. It plans to double capacity to 55 billion cubic meters per year by using a second line starting October 8.
