Currency traders at the Firdousi Square in Tehran were arrested. Iranian Prosecutor General Abbas Jafari Dovlatabadi said that 30 people were arrested the previous week, large amounts of foreign currency and gold confiscated, Trend reports.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s advisor, Hulamhusein Haddad Asel, said on Friday that attempts to devaluate rials were a conspiracy.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday that western states were causing the currency devaluation. 22 people were accused of the problem.
Alan Air of the US State Department said that the currency processes were caused by poor economic management. He urged Iran to cooperate with six mediators to resolve the problem.
Numerous people gathered for protests at the Big Bazar in Tehran on Wednesday. They protested against devaluation of rials. The dollar rate increased from 13,000 rials in early 2012 to 25,000 in mid-September. It increased to 36,000 rials on the last week of September.
