Russian Railways concludes first joint project with Iran

Russian Railways (RR) has concluded the first project for electrification of the Tabriz-Azarshahr Railway. RR Chief Vladimir Yakunin attended the ceremony of launching the railway, RIA Novosti reports.

The electrified railway is about 46 km long and has 5 stations. It will transport students for the Pedagogue University of Azarshahr.

Russia and Iran are also developing the North-South infrastructure. They consider building a direct railway between Iran and Azerbaijan and realization of the Resht (Iran) – Astara (Iran) – Astara (Azerbaijan) Railway project.

Successful realization of the initiatives will increase exports and imports, transit and efficiency of using the geopolitical potential of the two states to boost trade-economic cooperation of Europe and Asia.
