Metsamor nuclear power plant to serve Armenia for 10 more years

Exploitation term of Armenia’s Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Metsamor was prolonged for another ten years. It is stated in the memorandum on understanding in the energy sector signed by the Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan and the U.S. ambassador to Armenia John Heffern, NEWS.am reports.

The Ambassador said that  if Armenia is going to prolong the exploitation period for another ten years starting from 2016, the U.S. are ready to provide technical assistance to Armenia.

The decision to prolong the exploitation term is already approved by the Armenian government. This move is explained by the construction of a new NPP unit which will last ten years.
