In Kabardino-Balkaria land to be distributed

The authorities of Kabardino-Balkaria intend to distribute the republic of land in private hands. Today, the Public Council under the head of Kabardino-Balkaria at its meeting adopted a draft land reform, the implementation of which is designed for the next 3-5 years.

The reform assumes that every rural family will get plot of land, which will vary according to the total area of agricultural land in the municipality.

 Head of the republic Arsen Kanokov who attended the meeting of the Public Council noted that the land question in Russia was not so much a social issue but a socio-political one, because it is "seen through the lens of social justice."

Let us add that to date, according to the Kabardino-Balkar State Agricultural Academy, only 0.01% of 710.4 thousand hectares of farmland is privately owned (privatized plots), whereas in central Russia 65% of the land is privatized.

Kanokov said that since 2006 attempts were made to solve pressing problems, but results are still unsatisfactory. "The reform should be carried out, clearly, but we should not rush in such an important issue. We need a systematic approach to finding a balance between the interests of the main farmers", the head of Kabardino-Balkaria said.

President of the Republic stressed that there should not be any rushing in such a delicate question, and that is why the reform is designed for several years. "We need to objectively examine the features of mountain and plain part of the republic, gradually implementing the reform”, Kanokov said.

Kanokov also said that "the land should be a market-based instrument, and we should not be afraid of this fact".
