President Serzh Sargsyan received a delegation led by Iranian Energy Minister Majid Namdzhu after a meeting of the Iranian-Armenian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. At the meeting, Sargsyan emphasized that the Intergovernmental Commission plays an important role in the development of cooperation with Iran, not only in the economic but also the political and cultural spheres.
The president said that Armenia is interested in deepening relations with Iran, as well as increasing the volume of trade, noting progress in Armenian-Iranian economic relations. According to Sargsyan, another example would be the beginning of the construction of hydroelectric power stations in Meghri.
Namdzhu, for his part, told the Armenian president that the meeting was a success and was concluded with the achievement of a number of agreements. The Iranian Energy Minister assured Sargsyan that he will make every effort to implement these agreements, including the promotion of key programs in the spheres of energy and transport.
