Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Mohammed Behzad said on Friday that Chinese companies will finance construction of 10 Iranian power plants for 74 months, Trend reports.
A Chinese company invested $500 million in construction of a coal power plant in Tabas (central Iran) producing 650 MW.
Iran may export 10,000 MW/h to neighbouring states. It is trying to become a large regional exporter of electricity and invited over $1.1 billion investments for construction of 3 new power plants.
The Energy Ministry plans to increase electricity production to 5 GW annually.
Iran exported 8600 million KW/h last year. Conclusion of the 5-year plan of economic development (March 2016) should increase production by 25 GW to 73 GW.
Iran supplies Azerbaijan, Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq with electricity.
