Iran starts first drilling at South Pars

Iran started the first drilling at the South Pars Field, an area of Iran and Qatar. The first oil well should give about 20 billion cubic feet of natural gas daily.

The field contains about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas (8% of world reserves) and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.

Western sanctions on Iranian petroleum forced the country to focus on gas developments and realization of oil projects with Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
