Former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze has praised the recent meeting of representatives of Russia and Georgia in Geneva as "an important step that will eventually lead to certain results."
Shevardnadze said that the restoration of economic relations between Georgia and Russia will make the life of Georgian peasants significantly better.
Shevardnadze stressed that the government of Georgia seeks to restore relations with Russia without compromising state interests or the territorial integrity of the country.
The ex-president also recalled that starting from 2008, America and Europe have been constantly urging Georgia to settle relations with Russia.
