Iran to make electricity cheaper

Abbas Aliabadi, managing director of Power Plant Projects Management Company (MAPNA), said that Iran was planning to reduce electricity prices. He added that 55-60% of the average price was equivalent to expenses for its production, IRIB reports.

Iran uses coal to produce 40-43% of its electricity and plans to continue using it until 2040. More will be invested in gas power plants, combined plants, dams and wind power plants.

The Energy Ministry of Iran plans to increase electricity production by 5GW before March 20, 2013.
