Iranian scientist Manuchkher Ahmadi and his team have produced gold that is 99.9 percent pure, putting Iran on the list of pure-gold producing countries.
Previously, the 24-carat gold market belonged to only 10 developed countries, but now Iran has developed the technology, Iran News reports.
Iranian scientists say purifying gold also prevents other precious metals like platinum from being exported out of the country in low-carat gold products.
Aside from jewellery-making, gold is used in dentistry, electronics and nanotechnology.
