Azerbaijani president says country is open for non-energy investments

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the World Economic Forum in Davos that Azerbaijan was open for investments. He called the economy of Azerbaijan sustainable, even during recession, one of the most rapidly-developing in the world and more diversified, BBC reports.

The GDP increased by over 300% in the last 10 years. Aliyev urged foreigners to invest in the non-energy sector. He encourages countries to finance high-tech, information technologies and services.

Aliyev reminded that Azerbaijan had friendly ties with BP for 20 years and was planning to continue them for 20 more, due to existing projects.

Commenting on the economic situation in the US and the EU, the Azerbaijani leader noted that the latter had more problems, such as support of smaller states. He believes that the economic and political situation in the US is better than that in the EU.
