BP is to continue operations within the framework of Azerbaijan's major gas condensate project “Shahdeniz”, Minister of Industry and Energetics of Azerbaijan Natik Akiev told the news agency Bloomberg in Batumi.
“We do not see the possibility of replacing BP as our main partner with any other investor. The consortium is already formed, so this is not a matter for discussion”, he added.
It was thought earlier that BP would sell part of its assets to raise funds after massive expenses following the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Gas from the “Shahdeniz” field is exported to Georgia and Turkey via the South Caucasian pipeline.
