Armenia, Russia to expand military cooperation

A Russian delegation headed by Konstantin Birulev, Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation, arrived on a three-day visit to Armenia to discuss further development of Armenian-Russian military cooperation.

Participating in the meeting were also Deputy Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO),Valeri Semerikov, Council Chairman and?head of the CSTO Interstate Commission for Military and Economic Cooperation, Alexander Nozdrachev, as well as the managers of a number of enterprises of Russia's military-industrial complex.

The press service of the Armenian National Security Council told NEWS.am that Council Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan discussed with the Russian delegation the development of the military-industrial complex and?the establishment of Armenian-Russian enterprises under a military and technical cooperation agreement.

He pointed out the importance of including the enterprises of Armenia's military industrial complex in the Russian-Belarussian financial-industrial group Defense Systems.

The Russian delegation also visited the Gyumri air base, the Slatsk and Avtogen-M enterprises in Vanadzor, a?machine-tool plant in Charentsavan and the?Patnesh enterprise in Hrazdan.

CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha arrived in Armenia as well. On July 20, the sides are to discuss the implementation of decisions made at the CSTO Council's session last month.
