Rostov nuclear power plant shuts down

 

The second energy block of the Rostov nuclear power plant was shut down at 7.43 pm on Wednesday, reducing the reactor’s output by 40%, Interfax reports.

It is planned to be started again in the second half of Thursday.

The power plant is located at the Tsimlyansky Water Reservoir, 13.5km away from Volgodonsk. Its first block was launched in 2001, second block in December 2009. The energy production started in March 2010. The third and fourth energy blocks are under construction and will be launched in 2014 and 2017 respectively.
