If "Gazprom" does not agree to pay more for the gas it receives from
the Karachaganak field in western Kazakhstan, the Kazakh authorities
will be selling it to China, the Kazakh Minister of Oil and Gas Sauat
Mynbayev said.
Currently, each year about seven billion cubic meters of gas from
Karachaganak is delivered to the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant. After
that 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas return to
Kazakhstan through swaps. The remaining 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas are
purchased by "Gazprom".
