Iran will start construction of the world’s highest dam in the Lorestan Province today, Iran News cites Seyed Mohammed Reza Rezazadeh, Director General of the Iranian Company for Development of Water Economy and Hydro Energy.
The Bakhtiari Dam will have a power of about 1.5GW. About $1.4 billion will be invested in the project. Total expenses for the project may total $2.85 billion.
The dam will be built on the Zagros Mountain Group, 80km south-east of Khorramabad, the administrative center of the Lorestan Province, on the crossing of the Dez and Bakhtiari rivers. The volume of annual water stream will reach 5 billion cubic meters. The dam will be 325m high, 509m long. About 4.8 million cubic meters of concrete will be needed for construction.
