Azerbaijan, Georgia establish telecommunications cooperation

Georgia and Azerbaijan will establish closer cooperation in the telecommunications sector, Trend reports.  Adviser to Georgian Prime Minister Vakhtang Lezhava said that Georgia and Azerbaijan will soon start the implementation of the "East-West" transnational information superhighway. "This concerns laying a fibre-optic network from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea," Lezhava said.
The cost of the project has yet to be determined. The project aims to eliminate the "information gap" between the East and the West, to reduce poverty, to increase economic growth and to play the role of a regional development engine.
