The Bilyasuvar checkpoint and the city will become part of the Araz free economic zone, allowing the checkpoint to be open 24/7, Trend cites Mohsen Pakayin, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan.
The Araz free economic zone was formed at Julfa 9 years ago. It covers 53,000 hectares, starting in Julfa and running along Khudarefin, Jananlu and Gulubeyli. The territory of Julfa is 21,000 hectares. The biggest part of the zone covers 33,000 hectares in Gulubeyli-Khudaferin.
Enterprises at Araz are free of taxes and customs for 20 years.
There are also checkpoints in Astara and Julfa.
