Georgia must try to simplify its border crossings not only with Turkey, but also with other countries of the region – Armenia and Azerbaijan, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said at a meeting with the staff of the Ministry of Finance, Trend reports.
He said that they need a single border crossing to allow people cross the border without barriers. At the same time, Saakashvili expressed discontent with Georgian customs staff humiliating foreigners by checking their cargo and personal belongings. He pointed out that such checks are carried out very rarely abroad, and only when there are reasonable grounds for suspicion.
The president noted, as an example, that a first group of Spanish tourists arrived in Georgia, but they would not visit the country again because of the humiliating experience of being searched. He said that he does not want such pithecanthropus in form of customs personnel to be working for the border service.
