Duma faction leaders inspect Sochi Olympic facilities

The leaders of the State Duma factions arrived  today in Sochi and inspected the Primorsky Cluster of the 2014 Olympics.

The deputies viewed the "Bolshoi" Ice Arena for ice hockey, an arena for figure skating and the short-track "Iceberg", an arena for curling and a skating center. They also inspected the construction of the Central Olympic Stadium.

"What we have seen of what already exists provides reason for respect. We asked a very important for us question on the financing. We were told that no extra money will be needed, maybe there will even be savings. That is good news," the leader of Duma faction "United Russia", Vladimir Vasiliev, said.

Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov noted the high technical characteristcs of the Sochi facilities. "There are a lot of interesting decisions, much has been done, but there is still a lot to be done. Infrastructure should keep up, because any facility looks fine if there is an elegant setting around it, and Sochi has always had a beautiful natural landscape," Zyuganov said.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky also praised the readiness of Sochi for the Olympics. "Sochi is ready to host the Winter Olympic Games. All facilities will be finished on time, all performed at the highest technical level. This will not be just the third capital of Russia, but the capital of sport, a sporting capital of Europe and the Middle East," he said.

Sergei Mironov said that the builders of the Sochi Olympics "worked well." "We have much to be proud of, I hope that, after the results of the Games we can be proud of the overall result, and our athletes as well," Sergey Mironov said.
