Russian business operates at a loss

Russian businesses run at a loss. According to the State Statistics Service, the number of unprofitable organizations in the country in the first quarter of 2013 increased by 1.5% compared to the same period in 2012. It has now reached 36.5%.

During January-March 2013, the net financial result (profit minus loss) of companies (except small businesses, banks, insurance companies and public institutions) in current prices amounted to 1.546 trillion rubles. 37,000 organizations received total profits of 2.117 trillion rubles, and 21.2 thousand organizations suffered damages of a total of 570.6 billion rubles.

In the retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles, household and personal goods, 24.4% of the companies suffered losses compared to 23.1% a year earlier. In the transport industry almost half of enterprises are suffering losses: 49.9% compared to 49.5% last year.
