Turkmenistan wants to join Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway project

 

Turkish President Abdullah Gul is having a visit to Ashkhabad on May 29-31 and signed a joint declaration with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The document says that Turkmenistan wants to join the Central Corridor running from Central Asia through the Caspian Region to Europe via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway.

The sides expressed readiness to cooperate in transportation and transit.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey is expected to transport 30 million tons of goods from Asia to Europe every year. Accomplishment of the Marmaris Tunnel construction under the Bosphorus will benefit the railway project.
