The Russian Defense Ministry has requested the Ministry of Finances to grant funds for construction of the naval base in Novorossiysk, Interfax cites Roman Filimonov, director of the department for state customer of capital construction of the Defense Ministry.
The ministry for Finances was asked to speed up financing in 2014-2016 and complete construction of the base in 2016-2017 to prepare for reception of the Black Sea Fleet.
The official emphasized that the naval base was under construction in Novorossiysk. It is capable of maintaining 40% of new armaments.
