Turkey to build bridges in Turkmenistan

The Turkmen Ministry for Railway Transportation will sign a contract with Nata Inşaat Turizm Taşimacilik Ticaret ve Sanayi Anonim Şirketi (Turkey) to build 13 railway bridges along the Bereket-Etrek section of the Gyzylgaya-Bereket-Etrek Railway, Trend reports.

Their construction should start by the end of June and end in August 2014.

A similar contract was signed with Pars Energy (Iran) in January 2010. The bridges were supposed to be ready in December 2012, so the contract was nullified.

Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are realizing the North-South project initiated in 2007. The railway line will be used to transport up to 3-5 million tons of cargo a year. The capacity may increase to 10-12 million tons.
