Prices for food in Georgia may rise. The climate this year has led to prices for coffee, tea, sugar, wheat and rice rising. Economists predict the price rate for food to exceed the record indicator of rising prices for gold, Business Georgia reports.
The heat this year increased the price of grain by 50%. Rice prices rose by 15%, because the harvest in China, the producer of 1/3 of the world’s rice, fell by 10%. The price of sugar increased by 22% in July, influenced by processes in India, Pakistan, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Coffee prices reached a 12-year high. India believes that constant rain will lead to higher prices for tea.
Georgian entrepreneurs have already confirmed the rising prices. The import company ‘Tsars Quality 2009’ said that the world prices mainly affected grain. Buckwheat prices have almost doubled, a bag of it costs 55 lari. Rice prices rose by 20%, reaching 35 lari.
The highest price for a bag of sugar was 90 lari last year. Today it is 78 lari. Coffee prices rose by 10%
