Russia's first passenger train depot, designed to service the new double-decker coaches for trains, has opened in Mineralnye Vody today.
The ceremony was attended by the President of "Russian Railways" Vladimir Yakunin, the Vice-Governor - Chairman of the Government of Stavropol Ivan Kovalev, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, Mikhail Afanasiev and other officials.
The coach-repair depot in Minvody has been operating since 1935. In 2010, it went through extensive reconstruction, which created a modern and powerful enterprise. It was announced at the opening ceremony that its capacity has quadrupled, up to 1,300 coaches a year.
Part of the ceremony was the presentation of the first Russian double-decker passenger vehicle, which will be in operation on the route Moscow - Adler prior to the start of the Winter Olympics in Sochi already by November 2013.
