Liquefied gas exporters prefer Asia to Europe

Qatar reduced gas exports to Europe last year and shows more interest in the Asian market. Algeria did the same in 2013, abc.az reports.

The gas deficit this year totaled about 30% and may hit 50% in winter. Ukraine may start taking away gas from Gazprom’s transit supplies for the refusal of the company to pump gas to its underground gas holders.

Gazprom will not be able to increase gas flows to Europe because it needs to reserve up to 50% of its volumes for alternate buyers due to the third energy packer passed in the EU. Gazprom may also quit attempts to improve the situation as a response to constant accusations of monopolism.
