Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov will attend the opening of the Galkinish Field in Turkmenistan and discuss bilateral agreements, CA-News cites Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.
Relations between Turkmenistan and China have origins in the Silk Road connecting the states for centuries. Their cooperation in the new age is gaining a strategic status, according to Berdimuhamedov.
Galkinish is the world’s second largest gas field (26 trillion cubic meters). China will grant loans worth $8 billion to Turkmenistan for its development, the Turkmen government will grant $2 billion. Ashkhabad will provide China with 65 billion cubic meters of gas annually, as stated in an agreement between the two states.
