The situation in Kalmikia is on high alert due to incidents of african swine plague noticed on several farms, the press secretary of the Ministry Of Emergency Situations, Nikolay Sharapov, told RIA Novosti.
4 pigs died in the village of Dzhalikovo in Lagansky region. Scientific research confirmed that it was african swine plague. The situation is considered extreme and all herds are to be killed.
African swine plague (Montgomery's disease) was first discovered in 1903 in Africa. Its spread can cause terrible economic crises. It is totally harmless to humans.
