“Rosatom” will fit out Armenian NPS.

“Rosatom” and Armenian Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources signed a treaty according to which “Rosatom” will provide a new nuclear unit with nuclear island, reports RIA News as referred to press service of the Russian corporation.

On March 26 the treaty was signed by the chief executive officer of “Rosatom” Sergei Kirienko and Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsysyan. Press service points out that this treaty formalized accommodations reached at the meeting in Yerevan on October 23. The power of this nuclear unit will be 1060 MW and 60 years lifetime. To ensure execution of the project and Russian-Armenian join corporation “Metzamorenergoatom” will be created. 

Sides also reached an agreement in sphere of Russian-Armenian joint construction of new a generating set in the Republic of Armenia.

In 2006 the Parliament of Armenia repealed state monopoly on holding new energy sets in order to raise investment. The building of the new energy will be started in the first decade of 2011. 

At present, Armenian Nuclear PowerStation is situated near the city of Metzamor. It have been put into action in 1976 year and according to the specialists’ research it can function till 2016 year.
