Iran instigates trilateral negotiations on export of Iranian gas to Europe. Asghar Soheilipur, the National Iranian Gas Company's (NIGC) planning manager, reported that the undersecretaries of energy of Iraq and Syria have received official invitations to visit Tehran for trilateral negotiations concerning exporting and delivery of Iranian gas, says Iran News.
Asghar Soheilipur stressed that Iran and Syria want to build a gas pipeline, stretching from Iran to Syria through Iraq, and then to the Mediterranean coast and on to Europe.
According to Asghar Soheilipur, transit of Iranian gas to Syria and Europe was the main topic of the recent negotiations held during the visit of the Iranian delegation to Baghdad. Several years ago, Iran and Syria signed a memorandum of understanding on exporting Iranian gas to the energy markets of Europe.
Earlier, the Oil Ministry of Iraq gave permission for the transit of Iranian natural gas through the pipeline, which will cross Iraqi territory.
