After signing a nuclear deal with six international mediators, Iran was planning to increase the production of 5%-enriched uranium, said Head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi, RIA Novosti reports.
He clarified that Iran will not enrich uranium to 20% in the next 6 months. According to the agreement, half of 20%-enriched uranium will be left in the oxide form for the Tehran research reactor, the rest will have the enrichment level reduced to 5%. Iran will not enrich uranium higher than 5%.
Salehi noted that enrichment to 20% was only halted, not scrapped. The process may be fully restored if the West fails to fulfill its obligations, Salehi said.
