The UN Refugee Agency has granted 1200 Georgian families in 60 residential areas in Shida Kartli, near the border of South Ossetia, aid worth over $200,000 for the winter. The handicapped, large families and elderly people will receive 300 lari each, Georgia Online reports.
The Georgian Ministry for Regional Development and Infrastructure said that the problem was discussed by the governmental commission for reaction to the needs of the population and officials of the UN Refugee Agency on November 28.
The people in need will receive aid in the first week of December. The Georgian government will grant each family in the area 200 lari for heating in winter. Over 2.2 million lari were issued by the government.
