Bosnia to gain access to 'Nabucco'

The Bosnian gas-distribution company 'BH-Gas' has asked Turkey's 'BOTAŞ' Petroleum Pipeline Corporation for help in the construction of a pipeline adjoining the Nabucco one, Trend says citing Energy Intelligence Group.

BOTAŞ is a member of the Nabucco consortium. BH-Gas acquires more than 300 million cubic meters of gas from Russia annually.

The Nabucco pipeline is a proposed natural gas pipeline from Erzurum in Turkey to Baumgarten an der March in Austria, diversifying natural gas suppliers and delivery routes for Europe. The pipeline attempts to diminish European dependence on Russian energy and to rival the 'South Stream' pipeline. The project is backed by several European Union states and the United States in competition with the Gazprom-led 'South Stream' pipeline project. At the same time, there are some doubts concerning the viability of supplies. The main supplier is expected to be Azerbaijan, in cooperation with Turkmenistan, Iraq and Egypt.

Bosnia intends to gain access to both the Nabucco and South Stream pipelines.
