Turkey has started construction of a 107-km-long water pipeline to the Northern Cyprus. One kilometer of the pipeline has already been constructed. The project is worth $484 million, Armenia Today reports.
80km of the pipeline will run at a depth of 280m, the rest along the seabed.
The project was initiated by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to supply water to the island. It should also encourage the Greek and Turkish parts of the island to cooperate.
Cypriot Minister for Ecology Ioanna Panayiotou expressed concerns about expenses. She added that water will be polluted while moving through the pipeline.
