Transneft freezes Makhachkala-Baku pipeline section

Transneft has turned off the Makhachkala-Baku section of the Baku-Novorossiysk Pipeline, said spokesman of the company Igor Demin, ITAR-TASS reports.He noted that the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) had not started official negotiations to sign a deal on transit of Azerbaijani oil. The deal of Russia and Azerbaijan to transit oil was cancelled in May 2013, although the companies will continue oil transits until early February.The Novorossiysk-Makhachkala section will be used to transport oil to the port of the Dagestani capital.Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed the order to stop transit of Azerbaijani oil through Russia on May 14, 2013.
