Iran to export oil to Russia

Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanai has confirmed the readiness of Iran to export oil to Russia. He said that Russia and Iran had signed a cooperation memorandum in the early 1990s and would be updated with a new one.

The ambassador reminded about Iranian gas exports to the Soviet Union in the past. He reminded that businessmen from a set of states, including the EU and the US, had visited Tehran in the past weeks. Sanai believes that Russia should have advantages on the Iranian market for the support it had been giving.

Concerning the projects the two countries may realize, the ambassador noted foundation of a mini refinery, Russian investments in Iranian gas fields, such as Asaluyeh in South Pars. He reminded that Russia’s LUKOIL was extracting oil at the Anaran Field. Iran may also purchase hundreds of megawatts of energy from Russia. The sides my also cooperate in car manufacturing.
