Naftogaz (Ukraine) has paid off $1.28 billion of its debt to Gazprom (Russia), which is about half of the sum it owes the Russian company, ITAR-TASS reports.
Gazprom said in early February that Ukraine owed Russia $658.4 million for gas used in January and $2.634 billion for gas in 2013.
The second half of the debt will be repaid by April 15.
