Turkish lawsuit against Iran over gas prices to continue throughout 2014

The lawsuit of Turkey against Iran over gas prices will continue at the International Court of Arbitration throughout the year, said Turkish Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz, Trend reports.

Turkey pays Iran $490 per thousand cubic meters, according to Turkish mass media. Turkey pays $355 for the same volume of Azerbaijani gas delivered through the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Pipeline.

The lawsuit was filed in March 2012, based on the deal Turkey and Iran signed in 1996.

Turkey’s Botas imported 38.42 billion cubic meters of gas in 2013, 43.09 billion in 2012. It has contracts to import 10 billion cubic meters of gas from Iran, 20 billion from Russia, 6.6 billion from Azerbaijan. It plans to sign deals with Algeria and Nigeria to import 4.4 and 1.2 billion cubic meters of liquefied gas a year respectively.
