Property in Turkey is mostly purchased by Russians

More than 3300 houses in Turkey were acquired by Russian citizens in 2013. Thus, Russia has left behind Germany and the UK, who in previous years had maintained a stable leadership in this field.

In 2012, foreigners  in Turkey bought about 13.5 thousand houses. The statistics include only individuals. With the validation of a new law on the principles of reciprocity in real estate transactions in mid-2012, the number of foreign citizens interested in buying an apartment, house or land in the country began to grow. According to this law, non-citizens of the republic can conduct any operations with real estate, including buying, selling and building plots of land measuring not more than 30 hectares per person. Similar rights are granted in accordance with local circumstances, also to Turkish citizens when buying property abroad. Foreigners who buy an apartment or a plot of land in Turkey can obtain a residence permit and subsequently even citizenship under certain conditions, according to ITAR-TASS.

According to Turkish media, the Russians , "went on the attack" and significantly took off from their traditional competitors. Last year, Russian citizens bought more than a thousand plots of land and 2.3 thousand apartments. The most popular regions for the purchase of real estate by foreign nationals are western Turkey, some northern and central provinces, as well as the south-east, where the sales are likely to be associated with the arrival of Syrian refugees. Meanwhile, the popular tourist provinces of Antalya, Mugla and Aydin are next in levels of real estate acquisition.
