Turkmenistan prepares to "charge" Afghanistan

Turkmenistan will be able to increase its exports of electricity to Afghanistan after the commissioning of new power plant in Lebap (region) , which will be held in early May. This was stated by the government following a meeting of the Cabinet, which discussed the supply of electricity to the neighboring country .

"Commissioning of the new plant will provide an opportunity to increase exports of Turkmen electricity to Afghanistan," Trend quotes the words of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov .

The President has stressed that the ongoing work is the evidence of the implementation of policies to diversify the country's energy sector. He has also instructed Deputy Prime Minister Murad Artykov to prepare for the forthcoming opening of the appropriate level of power .

Berdimuhamedov announced Turkmenistan's readiness to consider proposals to increase the supply of electricity to Afghanistan in February this year. Afghanistan now receives Turkmen electricity on concessional terms and on a regular basis.

Electric power is one of the leading industries of Turkmenistan. Currently, work is underway to increase electricity exports to Iran and Turkey. The possibility of its supplies to Tajikistan , Kazakhstan , Pakistan and countries of the Caucasus is also being considered.

By 2020, the country plans to increase electricity production to 27.4 billion kW / h, and by 2030 - to 35.5 billion kW/h
