Gazprom has officially informed Naftogaz Ukrainy about the switch to a pre-paid system for 114 million cubic meters of gas a day in June, according to spokesman of the Russian gas holding Sergey Kupriyanov, RIA Novosti reports.
Ukraine needs to pay $1,659 for 3.42 billion cubic meters of gas, according to a price of $485 per thousand cubic meters. The bill coincides with the year-long contract of 41.6 billion cubic meters based on the take or pay system.
The outstanding debt totals $3.505 billion. Naftogaz needs to pay for gas by June 2. The company will start receiving gas on June 3, only on condition that pre-payments are made.
