Mikhail Nadezhdin, the head of the main regional directorate of the Ministry for Emergencies, declared a state of emergency due to heavy rain throughout Kabardino-Balkaria, ITAR-TASS reports.
A state of emergency was imposed on the Chegemsky and the Chereksky districts of the republic on May 22.
Heavy rains on May 13-14 and May 20-21 caused mudslides in Kabardino-Balkaria. Roads and bridges were damaged, blocking access to some villages. Thousands of people suffered from shortages of water, gas and electricity. The regional authorities say that the weather caused damage worth 1 billion rubles.
