Azerbaijani gas returns to Russia

Rovnag Abdullayev, the head of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), confirmed that Azerbaijani gas exports to Russia renewed today. They had been stopped in mid-January 2014 due to reconstruction on the highway from Baku to the Russian border.

SOCAR press secretary Nizameddin Guliyev told Vestnik Kavkaza that there were many elements of gas infrastructure along the highway.

According to Abdullayev, 2-2.5 million cubic meters of gas will be transported daily, compared with an average of 3 million a day before the reconstruction.

The SOCAR and Gazprom signed the gas deal in Baku on October 14, 2009, and an additional deal to increase volumes of gas purchased in Sochi on January 24, 2012.
