Ukraine, Bulgaria and Georgia have signed a protocol on developing
ferry transport as a result of the 23rd session of the board of
directors for the joint exploitation of Ilyichevsk-Varna and the 14th
session of the board of directors for Vrana-Poti/Batumi-Ilyichevsk
ferry. The sides were having talks at Ilyichevsk port, Business
Georgia reports.
Heads and leading specialists of 'Ukrzaliznytsi', Ukrferry', 'IMTP',
Bulgarian railroad, Bulgarian 'BMF EAD' shipping, Poti and Batumi sea
ports, 'Georgian Railroad' company.
The ferry work is regulated by the trilateral agreement of Bulgarian
government, Georgian Executive Authorities and the Cabinet of Ukraine,
signed on April 17, 1999 in Poti, Georgia.
Ferry transport is regular. Earlier railroad ferries were only used by
cargo carriages, now they will be used by high-tonnage containers,
light cars and international freight trains. In the first 8 months of
2010, the ferry transport compnay 'IMTP' transported 456,600 tons of
cargo.
