Today, September 20th, marks the 16th anniversary of the celebrations
of Oil Workers Day in Azerbaijan, reports Trend. It was no coincidence
that the “Contract of the Century” was signed on the same day, which
revived the Azerbaijani oil and gas industry. An agreement on
production-sharing of the “Azeri-Chirag-Gyneshli” Azerbaijani maritime
oil fields was signed on the 20th of September 1994. Various treaties
and contracts were signed later and new terminals and pipelines built,
but the Contract of the Century remains the basis of Azerbaijani
economic policy, as it stimulated the whole country's economy.
