The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, following the results of a meeting of the heads of "the Caspian five" in a restricted format at the IV Caspian summit in Astrakhan, offered the project of a ring railroad round the Caspian Sea. "The task is to connect the main Caspian ports, which will significantly reduce the time and cost of transportation of goods, so, it will increase the competitiveness of our economies," he explained. Putin reported that during the negotiations an agreement was reached on considering the possibility of organizing a five-sided structure engaged in implementation of the project of the Caspian railway ring, ITAR-TASS reports.
